Not since President Jimmy Carter has America witnessed such a powerless and irrelevent President as Barack Obama. The world laughs at us and we hang our heads in shame as the French – THE FRENCH! – take the lead in Libya, Iran builds their nuclear weapons and Cuba jails an innocent American as a spy. In December of 2009, contractor Alan Gross was arrested in Cuba and accused of being a spy. Gross had traveled to the Marxist nation to assist the Jewish community there in setting up internet communications. These actions were considered subversive by Cuban authorities and they have claimed that Gross entered on the wrong visa. He has been in jail in Havana since his arrest and was sentenced yesterday to an outrageous 15 years in prison!
And our President is powerless to do anything. His only action has been to use feeble words through the mouth of a surrogate. This President more often than not uses mouth pieces to get his message out rather than his own. For a man who loves to be in front of the camera every single day, it is shocking to witness him derelict in his duty of protecting an innocent American citizen. He should be in front of a camera demanding the release of Gross now or else. Unfortunately, even if he had the cojones do that, what would the “or else” mean? He has no action to back up his words whether he is dealing with our imploded economy, an erupting Middle East or an innocent man jailed in a country that this arrogant SOB did away with sanctions against. The irony here is that the lifting of these restrictions was suppose to open up communications in Cuba, the reason Gross was in Cuba.
The Jerusalem Post reports:
“We deplore this ruling,” Philip J. Crowley, the State Department spokesman was quoted by media as saying. “Alan Gross is a dedicated international development worker who has devoted his life to helping people in more than 50 countries. He was in Cuba to help the Cuban people connect with the rest of the world.”
The Obama administration also condemned the ruling. “Today’s sentencing adds another injustice to Alan Gross’s ordeal,” Tommy Vietor, the US National Security Council spokesman said in a statement. “He has already spent too many days in detention and should not spend one more. We urge the immediate release of Mr. Gross so that he can return home to his wife and family.”
The World Jewish Congress was the first Jewish organization to respond to the news coming from Cuba on Sunday, drawing a parallel between the sentence given to Gross and violations of human rights in the Middle East.
“Another miscarriage of Justice by an oppressive regime just miles from America’s shores,” Dan Diker, WJC secretary-general designate, said. “Cuba is testing the resolve of the US administration to stand down oppressive regimes and stand up for Freedom and human rights. Castro may feel empowered as it watches regimes in the Middle East such as Libya get away with murder.”
So sad that the once great Superpower of America has been dismanteled by this Putz-in-Chief. And now Alan Gross will wallow in a Cuban jail unless the rest of the world takes up his cause and saves him.
