I make it no secret that I am a Christian Conservative who happens to be gay as well. I do not like many gay people and the following story is one reason why. Lefty gay activists regularly set out to offend people and defend their actions by claiming that they have free speech and are just seeking equality. The truth is, they mean to offend people just because they can. And they hurt the majority of gay people who just want to be left alone to lead their lives in a quiet and respectable way. As they say, you attract more flies with honey.
Dollywood is the world renowned theme park opened by Dolly Parton. Like many family oriented theme parks, it has a dress code. The Disney Parks have dress codes as well. One would assume that you leave your politics outside the gates, but not this gay couple. Olivier Odom and Jennifer Tipton went to the Dollywood Splash Country with some friends and the friends’ children. Olivier Odom sported a shirt emblazoned with the phrase “Marriage is so Gay.” She was asked at the gate to turn her shirt inside out because it was against the dress code and she complied claiming she was outraged, but made no scene because of the children with them.
I would assume that all political type shirts or offensive shirts are given the same treatment at the gate and the fact that this t-shirt was gay themed had nothing to do with the park making the request. Based on that assumption, I would say that these women were treated no different than anyone else and they were allowed to enter the park and enjoy their day. But these two activists couldn’t resist making this a national story and are requesting that Dollywood be more inclusive. More inclusive?! These women were allowed to enter the park. How were they excluded? And let’s be clear here, this shirt was worn with intent. I always think about what I dress in everyday. Do the colors match? Do I need to look nice or can I be sloppy? And if I have a shirt with a political statement, particularly one with an offensive statement, I’m going to think about wearing that shirt twice if I am going to a family park. These women had every intention of making this an issue. Sorry ladies, I don’t buy your bullcrap story!
Update: And look at this shameful headline claiming the couple was blocked and yet nowhere in the story is that mentioned. These lefty gay activists really are amazing!

I find this article to be a very interesting read. The assumption that everyone thinks about what they put on before they read it is a bit far fetched. Almost as far fetched as painting these women to be some kind of activists. They never said they were blocked, and one woman wore a shirt that she liked probably because she liked it, not because it could potentially offend someone. The problem with the entire message here is that you like those “many” gays you do not like, are hoisting just as much spotlight on this topic. You can not tell me that a shirt which says “Marriage is so gay” is offensive. A bloody decapitated body on a printed shirt, that may be considered offensive. A shirt which says “Hitler got it right” or “God hates Fags” is offensive. Had the shirt said “Gay is the only way” or “Straight people are nasty”, then yes that would be offensive. You attack these women who were offended not by the request, but by HOW the request was made. Bravo Dollywood? That is offensive. I am not an agenda pushing homosexual myself. Nor am I so emotionally sensitive that a shirt that said “Marriage is so straight” would offend me. Nor am I so politically sensitive that every small comment or story sends me into an article writing frenzy. The shirt wasn’t offensive, and even if it was, these women had every right to complain however loudly they would like to about being offended. That is the beauty of living in America. We are allowed to complain about EVERYTHING. Ask the rest of the world, we are known collectively for our complaining. You could disagree, but that would be hypocritical, since you are complaining here. As you have the right to do.
This is America, and we are Americans, politics is never left anywhere. We carry it around like the proud boastful citizens we are, most of the time wearing it on our sleeve. Be that “Christian Conservatives” or “Lefty Gay Activists”. Had either of those titles been on a shirt would you find that offensive? Would it offend you so much that you would leave the park, or start a fight? I don’t know what happened to that thick skin we as Americans are supposed to be famous for, but it has been worn away by ridiculous rants, activism, and political correctness. So much so that on any issue nowadays both sides seem to get up in arms.
It was a shirt. The hilarity of that, their reaction, and your counter argument, almost stands testament to the farce we American’s live daily now. The parks rules are their rules, this couple simply asked that those be evaluated because they were offended by the delivery of the request. Dollywood would do well to rethink what offensive is. We both know that shirt could have been far more offensive. Had these two women kissed in the park, would that be offensive? Would they be asked to stop? Would that be correct?
Why do we know about this story? Because these women put it out there, which equals activists to me. And I’m sorry you don’t think about what you wear. You must never look fabulous then. Dollywood has every right to have whatever rules they want. You don’t like them, don’t go there.
