Last night I predicted that if Romney won the 2012 Iowa Republican Caucus, the Mainstream Media – with the approval of the GOP Establishment - would claim that Romney was the frontrunner and that the race was basically over. It is silly enough to consider the race to be over after only one state has held a primary/caucus, but it is plain obnoxious to do so when a candidate barely wins in the vote count and takes only 25% of the vote. That means that 75% of Iowan Republicans did not vote for Romney. 75%!! And yet, every cable news show today has claimed that this is Romney’s race to lose. History actually reveals that Iowa generally does not pick the eventual Republican nominee, so I would argue that Romney has a long way to go.
John McCain formally endorsed Romney today and joined him in New Hampshire. This is being touted as a positive for Romney. Are you kidding me? Romney should have run away quickly. I mean you are being endorsed by the guy you could not beat, who could not beat Obama. Talk about draining any inspiration Romney may have summoned up from the masses. Even Politico pointed out that McCain represents much of what the GOP base and particularly the Tea Party does not want. This is an indication to me that Romney has no intention of even trying to pander to conservatives.
It is frustrating to be in this postion of having someone force fed to us and knowing that the only way to drive Barack Obama from office is to vote within the two party system, meaning voting for the Republican, whomever that person ends up being. We The People want someone who is going to listen to us, not make empty promises, not pander to special interests and restore this nation to its constitutional foundation. I fear that Romney is not that man. And frankly, I’m tired of pulling the lever because I have no other choice. So until the delegate count is too high to be beaten, I will not declare that the race is over. I will not allow the Media, nor the GOP Establishment to play out the meme according to their wills. We must all work together to combat that. Romney barely won. For a guy who is suppose to be the One, he should have trounced the field and he did not.
New Hampshire will be interesting. If Romney does not have a big win, meaning he gets well over 50% of the vote, then the Media will have no choice but to pay attention once again to the once silent majority.
