Dear Representative Chaffetz,
I’m not one of your constituents, but I am a supporter of yours and donated to your campaign in a bid to bring more Tea Party candidates to Washington, D.C. Your promise to sleep on a cot in your office at the Capitol, rather than spend tax payer dollars on a fancy office in D.C. was refreshing and the fact you followed through on that promise gave me great hope in our efforts to restore America. I was reminded of your endorsement of candidate Mitt Romney for the Presidency when I saw you last night on a Fox News special hosted by Frank Luntz focusing on the upcoming New Hampshire Primary. I thought perhaps the heat of summer may have affected your brain back in July and that maybe you would eventually come to your senses. Last night, as I listened to you cheerlead for Romney, I wanted to vomit.
Conservative activists have watched people we ushered into D.C. to combat the Establishment on both sides of the aisle, turn their backs on us and join the bandwagon. Women like Kelly Ayotte and Nikki Haley and men like you, Rep. Chaffetz, have backed Mitt Romney because you think he is the only candidate who can beat Obama. You have not backed him because he is a conservative or shares the principles of the Founders or would actually stop the D.C. antics. You back him because you think he is a winner. Fold up your cot and head for the Ritz, you’ve joined the rest of the sewer. Your comments in an interview before heading to Iowa to campaign for Romney were unbelievable. You said, “I think he’s seen as the steady, smartest choice. I think he’s shown a degree of professionalism and poise that maybe the others have struggled with. I’ve got some pretty solid Tea Party credentials and, at this point in the process, that’s a healthy thing. I’ve heard him in very private settings tell people and reassure other members of Congress that, look, I am not going to embarrass you.” Fabulous. I’m glad we can have a guy that won’t embarrass us because that is what is most important to me.
Last night you informed everyone that 60 people in the House had endorsed Romney, while the next nearest candidate had 10 endorsements. Since when is this a popularity contest? I am truly bewildered! I have only one more thing to say to you Rep. Chaffetz and the rest of the Tea Party sellouts and the GOP Establishment: You were all wrong on John McCain and now you choose the man who could not beat the man who could not beat Obama. You better be right this time because America cannot afford for you to be wrong!
Sincerely,
Diane Student aka Outraged Tea Partier
